INAUGURATION OF "PING PLANTS ORGANISATION"

We members of PING PLANTS are happy to announce that our organisation's inauguration was successfull. The first sapling was planted by the Principal of Sri Bala Vidyalaya,Perambur. 

Followed by that,11 other sapling were planted by the students of Sri Bala Vidyalaya with the help of our members and volunteers.

We would like to thank the Prinicpal,the staffs and the students of Sri Bala Vidyalaya for supporting us in planting the saplings in their school.  

Finally, thanks to all the members and volunteers who joined us today and made this inauguration function a grand success!

Most trees and shrubs in cities or communities are planted to provide beauty or shade. These are two excellent reasons for their use. Woody plants also serve many other purposes, and it often is helpful to consider these other functions when selecting a tree or shrub for the landscape. The benefits of trees can be grouped into social, communal, environmental, and economic categories.

Social Benefits

We like trees around us because they make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to the presence of trees beyond simply observing their beauty. We feel serene, peaceful, restful, and tranquil in a grove of trees. We are “at home” there. Hospital patients have been shown to recover from surgery more quickly when their hospital room offered a view of trees. The strong ties between people and trees are most evident in the resistance of community residents to removing trees to widen streets. Or we note the heroic efforts of individuals and organizations to save particularly large or historic trees in a community.

The stature, strength, and endurance of trees give them a cathedral-like quality. Because of their potential for long life, trees frequently are planted as living memorials. We often become personally attached to trees that we or those we love have planted.

                     )(  Why planting trees is important  )(                                                            

Tree planting is a very positive action to take for the environment and is one answer to the threat of global warming.

If you are concerned about global warming and your carbon footprint, the most important step you can take is to reduce CO2 emissions. It is not possible to truly 'offset' carbon emissions or become carbon neutral simply by planting trees because:

Burning fossil fuels releases carbon that has been locked away for millions of years, creating a net increase of carbon in the atmosphere. This is creating a rise in the Earth's temperature which is leading to significant climatic change.
It can be years before a newly-planted tree will absorb significant amounts of CO2 - but the burning of fossil fuels releases CO2 into the atmosphere immediately, contributing to global warming.
There is also a risk that while 'carbon offsetting' has benefits, it could provide people with an excuse for maintaining a fossil-fuel intensive lifestyle.

So the best thing is to become carbon conscious. Do all you can to reduce your carbon emissions - and plant trees to reduce the impact of emissions that can't be avoided.

While widespread deforestation is releasing more CO2 into the atmosphere, planting trees instead absorbs CO2 - and it also encourages biodiversity and provides habitats for wildlife.

Trees also play an important role in sustainable living. They provide fuel that is virtually carbon-neutral, fruit and nuts for food, timber, shelter for smallholdings and farms and they help prevent soil erosion. There is no doubt that every single tree planted is of real benefit to the planet.
